I enjoyed the freedom of the medium, but I also found it limiting to build intimacy with an audience.\u00a0 I began to study the works of the artists\/directors that blended the unconventional with intimate character narratives.\u00a0 This exposure helped me see a fusion of both worlds and how to cultivate that work into a specific vision.\u00a0\u00a0 My background is in the spiritual dynamics of art.\u00a0 I am fascinated with layering a transcendent language that speaks to an audience on an internal relatable level.\u00a0 As a writer\/director is important for me to shape a film that speaks to our Being and how our relationship with the Beyond is a tangible force and also an abstract one.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tell us about your film &#8211; how did it come about?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is a very personal story to me.\u00a0 I come from a long line of Choctaw ancestry that walked the sorrowful Trail of Tears as they relocated to Oklahoma.\u00a0 DONOMA was a story that my grandmother used to tell me as a child.\u00a0\u00a0 I wanted to share a story about Natives that gave them beauty and mystery that I love to find in cinema.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How did you find out about FilmConvert?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>FilmConvert was shown to me by a friend who was grading his newest project at the time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why did you decide to use FilmConvert for this particular project?<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_993\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-993\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-993 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.filmconvert.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Dante-Portrait-small-BW.-smallpng-300x298.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"298\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.filmconvert.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Dante-Portrait-small-BW.-smallpng-300x298.png 300w, https:\/\/www.filmconvert.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Dante-Portrait-small-BW.-smallpng-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/www.filmconvert.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Dante-Portrait-small-BW.-smallpng-1024x1018.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.filmconvert.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Dante-Portrait-small-BW.-smallpng.png 1109w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-993\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dante Bull Shields as the Boy<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The film needed an organic quality that felt alive and almost coated with another dimension.\u00a0 When we were looking at FilmConvert\u2019s many options for film grain, and after a variety of tests, FilmConvert became the obvious choice.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What was the particular look or style you were going for with your video?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We wanted the film to project a surrealistic hyper-realism.\u00a0 When we chose the particular film color and grain structure it elevated the film into a realm that cemented the overall feeling and theme of the film.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tell us about your workflow. What settings, film stock, camera profiles, and tweaks did you use in FilmConvert?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We graded the film and then found our balance within the FilmConvert film grain.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What other effects or tweaking did you use?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We didn\u2019t use anything other than DaVinci Resolve to grade the film.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Evan Brace wrote, directed, edited and produced this short film based on a story told to him by his grandmother.
