An intimate peek into one day in 11 years with my dog Mesha, a Miniature Pinscher. She came with me on trips all over Japan, spending a lot of time on the road, waiting for the right light and weather conditions to photograph rural and coastal areas. In September 2018 I started filming clips to rough out the concept and later re-shoot it with another camera in various locations over several months. Unfortunately in September 2019, Mesha passed away suddenly and unexpectedly before I could finish the project the way I had envisioned. This documentary is made with the footage I had up until that point.

By NickRejected from their families, housing, jobs; many transgender people have to figure out other means of survival. This community is intensely profiled by the police and when incarcerated rates of sexual assault and abuse at the hands of both inmates and guards are 10 times higher for the transgender community as compared to the general population. Most transgender people are forced to serve time in facilities that don’t align with their gender identity. Ms. Diamond’s story unfortunately is only one of many.

The purpose of this film was to try out some new software in the editing phase. We love creating a film look to our work and have a huge interest in the colour process of digital video. We were lucky enough to get our hands on FilmConvert, a new plugin tool which give's digital camera footage the colour and grain of popular film stocks -http://www.filmconvert.com. By using this tool, we were able to generate the popular Fuji 8563 RL film stock to our GH2 footage filmed in the 'nostalgic' preset.
This film has helped us understand what can be done with FilmConvert, and can now be implemented, if needed, in our future work for clients.

By Andrew GooiThis is a follow up post to show how our Moonlight video looked like after it had been color graded. There were a handful of requests form viewers asking us to upload a graded version. We graded it with FilmConvert in Adobe Premiere Pro using the Sony A7s camera pack, Slog2 - S Gamut Profile, and the FJ 8553 ET FilmConvert Stock.
It was amazing to see how much color the A7s was able to bring out once we applied the Slog2 - S Gamut Profile to the clips. We desaturated the final grade to keep the moonlight feel.

By Skip FredricksNo matter where you are in Hobart you are never far away from the City’s beloved mountain, kunanyi / Mt Wellington. An extensive network of walking and mountain bike tracks are great ways of exploring the mountain, taking visitors past waterfalls, through fern glades and gullies, and opening up great views of Hobart and on good days the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. I acknowledges the Tasmanian Aboriginal People as the Traditional Owners and ongoing custodians of lutruwita, Tasmania. We pay our respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and to their Elders past, present and emerging.
By Lopes SezaboSometimes inspiring others to conservation starts with the simple act of giving them a place to walk. That's one of the driving forces which compelled Matthew Christiansen to spend this past summer digging trenches, cutting overgrowth, and maintaining the vast network of trails in the Monongahela National Forest located in West Virginia. In partnership with the Student Conservation Association and the U.S. Forest Service, Matthew set out to make his mark on the very lands which helped inspire his path to the study of environmental science. But as it goes with the outdoors, Matthew soon discovered the deeper truths of how a simple shovel and a pickaxe can move others to action.

By Tom de JonghMy Brothers' Blood is a project aimed at championing manhood through stories, photos and film. The goal is to shine a new light on what it takes to be a man through individual stories; to empower men through shared communication; and to support a healthy, balanced idea of manhood and masculinity through community. This is the first in many video interviews to come. You can find out more about the project at mybrothersblood.com. There you can find photo interviews as well as contact information if you're interested in being a part of the project.
By Everett FitchMy grand-aunt Mimi asked if I could help her share the story of her life. Something like this is impossible to give justice in an 8 minute piece, but all I can hope is that the enormous amount of life that she had in her soul is apparent to all of those who watch this. I was fortunate to be able to finish the film and travel back to Washington in early July to show the film to Mimi at her beloved cabin on Whidbey Island. Unfortunately, a little over a month later Mimi had a sudden illness followed by a stroke with several complications, she passed away on September 26th, 2016. In this moment, Mimi would prefer us celebrate her life, rather than be saddened by her death. So, here's to Mimi! I hope this film encourages those who see it to take a moment and capture a story from one of their elders on whatever media is available. The worth of these stories is invaluable and life can take sudden, unexpected turns. Love you Mimi.
By George KI spent a hot, bug-filled, summer afternoon filming at my home in Wisconsin. Why? Because my (wonderful) mother is an ecologist and has a beautiful prairie. Some of this footage will be used for a film I am (hopefully) putting together for my mom's business. During the time of filming gnats were out in full force. They kept flying around and landing on my lenses, buzzing next to the microphone (which you can hear), and generally annoying the f*** out of me.

Within the week of posting, my NYC test run of the new Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera went north of 3k playbacks, seeming sensible now to complement with a split-screen comparison of the untouched footage straight from the camera, alongside that finished product after color correction/grading. I have no delusions of being a studio auteur, who could justify a braggart director's commentary, but after thinking about the option to write a long, wordy blog post, I figured it's easier and better all-around just to talk over my footage. It's a visual medium anyway, and I'm sort of surprised there aren't more of these. Would love to see yours, too.
The video streams by default in full 1080p high definition, so if you get jitters, click the HD icon in-frame to reduce your playback resolution. For reference, here's the original seven-minute film: http://vimeo.com/hpmoon/nyc. As I say at the end of this commentary, please add your comments below, and please share your work

On August 29, there were just a handful of Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Cameras (BMPCs) in circulation, but I managed to get one. That weekend, I took a visit to New York City as my occasion to break it in. Manhattan has been a limitless source of inspiration for people far more talented than me, but the Blackmagic technology, coming to market in such a versatile size, invited this cinematic tone poem which might, even so, look different. Instead of creating something like a tourism video, I wanted to try and capture the human energy of the city that New Yorkers themselves know best, driven by the extraordinary music of Richard Danielpour that I came across recently (ringing in my head all weekend as I captured these shots).
True to the elegant simplicity of the BMPC (http://bhpho.to/bmccpckt), I shot the entire piece handheld, using a single lens (Panasoni

By William Markarian-MartinThis mini documentary takes a look in to the world of independent film making, and is a must watch for any one involved with, getting started in or just has a passing interest in film making. An alternative title for it could have been "How a couple of guys set up an Oscar nominated production company from nothing." It shows that there truly is "no set path" to success when it comes to film making, although there are a number of important traits, like passion, determination and high standards that certainly do help.
Jon Drever who is the co-founder and co-owner of Grain Media and a friend of mine very kindly let me into his professional world and spoke candily and honestly, allowing me to relive his journey in film making from very humble beginnings to running the extremely successful independent production company Grain Media. Its been an honour to be able to create something that hopefully goes some way to showing this inspirational journey.
