By ZOLTANFILMSDocumenting Hatem Kalaoun's story as an immigrant to America, a successful small business owner, and a father, has been a passion project for his son, Abraham, ever since college. For the past three years, we've discussed and imagined how we'd film his dad--we just needed the right opportunity! Finally, when we returned to Rhode Island in July 2018 after living in Georgia for a year and a half, we were able to film at the garage, and also interview Hatem to hear from him firsthand. This is the kind of storytelling we here at Cinema Jubilee LOVE to do 🙂 Shot on the Panasonic Lumix GH5, Panasonic Lumix G85, and DJI Mavic Pro; edited on Premiere Pro using the FilmConvert plugin to color grade. Film stock used: Plrd 600.

By Adam BellHOLLOKO is a Paloc ethnographic village in Hungary/Europe, part of the WORLD HERITAGE. It's name means 'RAVEN STONE' in Hungarian. The village considered the MOST photographed village in Hungary, located approximately 57 miles from Budapest, the capital of Hungary. This remarkable place has traditionally been in habited by PALOC people. PALOC speak an old dialect of Hungarian and have preserved their characteristic architecture and their fold costumes. Recognition of the cultural significance of the settlement was given in 1987 when Holloko was the first village in the WORLD to be added to UNESCO's world Heritage List. The village, which lies in a small valley, has burned down several times ( the last time was back in 1909 ) but each time the inhabitants rebuilt their houses in almost the same shape and forms. Of the nearly 60 houses around the originally 14 century wooden-towered church a museum village has been made. Several of the buildings, some of which have traditional carved woo

By Rob Reed"When the Land Calls" was inspired by the work of photographer James Ravillious, who in the 1970s and 80s documented the fast disappearing rural life of North Devon. One of his subjects was farmer Bill Strawbridge. Today Bill's grandson Ed farms the same land. The film follows Ed through his day on the dairy farm and as he looks back at Ravillious's photographs of the farming life in the years before he was born. Earlier this year "When the Land Calls" won the Arri/Director's UK Challenge - to film, edit and deliver a three minute film on the subject of Millenials in just three days using an Arri Amira.

By Pece zdravkovskiLook around, Open your eyes. Listen to your mind, hear what it says. Take hold of it, embrace it, This is your one life. The Finish Line is a short film that uses conventions of advertising as means to communicate an ideology to the millennial generation. Since taking a year off from University and working in commercial photography, I developed my own unique outlook on life. This has come from my belief that people become too content with their place in life. They create a ‘finish line’ in their head and once they are there they settle for what they have. People become content with living their life going from point A to point B. We instead should always be on a path of self improvement no matter where we are. This can be translated into future career prospects, fitness, skills, everything that you have a set goal for already. We should not be living our life looking forward to the finish line, it is irrelevant. The journey, the grind, the process is what you need to learn to l

By Tom de JonghRejected from their families, housing, jobs; many transgender people have to figure out other means of survival. This community is intensely profiled by the police and when incarcerated rates of sexual assault and abuse at the hands of both inmates and guards are 10 times higher for the transgender community as compared to the general population. Most transgender people are forced to serve time in facilities that don’t align with their gender identity. Ms. Diamond’s story unfortunately is only one of many.

By Simon EsslAn international popband sensation of centenarian grannies? Yep, it’s KBG84. People in the Okinawa island chain in southern Japan live to be the oldest anywhere in the world. It is designated a BlueZone and has one of the highest concentrations of centenarians. While both men and women of older generations live long lives, women tend to outlive their male counterparts and make it well into their 100s – and Tomi-San is no exception. Unavoidable when you live that long, tragedy entered Tomi’s life when both her son & husband passed away. Tomi found herself in a deep depression. This is the story of how she faced unimaginable hardship and sorrow in her life and in the process broke through barriers beyond her wildest dreams. Film Convert played a role in the final grade as we looked to really bring out the granny's age, frailty, yet paradoxical ruggedness.
By Stephan Boeker"From his earliest years as an artist, Hartman has been drawn to the (extremely complicated, extremely difficult) discipline of portraiture, and it is this fascination that has brought him, almost inevitably, to the subject of writers. Hartman is a reader, for one thing. But, for another, writers are cut from the same cloth as Hartman in many ways. They are observant. They are more comfortable with individuals than they are with generalizations. They do not imagine that time is a simple sequence. And they see landscapes – whether the Miramachi River in New Brunswick or MacLaughlin Point in British Columbia – as places where stories are kept. The same can be said of a face. It’s a history. It’s a revelation. It’s a map." – David Macfarlane Graded with FilmConvert

A CEO turned bladesmith, who now runs a nationally acclaimed knifemaking business and training academy. Karim invited me to stay on his property where I camped in my van and took in the amazing landscape and sense of peace that Tharwa Valley offers. One of the reasons I love creating this series is that I get the chance to travel around the country, spend time with, and pick up wisdom from other creators. The conversations I had with Karim were incredibly eye opening for me. One quote that stood out for me during his interview, really echoed the way I feel about being a filmmaker and creator: “People often talk about work life balance, and I think that’s the wrong way to describe it. It’s about life balance. I work very hard here, I work a lot of hours here, but it’s consistent, and my life is consistent. I’m not doing a day job that I spend my weekends escaping from.
