I usually wait for a year before I start editing the footage from my travels. Some call it procrastination, I like to call it traveling on a budget. With this method, I can relive all the adventures while going through the hundred gigabytes of video! Kind of. Back in November of 2015 we decided to escape the horrible Estonian weather and flew to Bali. The tourism and party capital of Indonesia! But we avoided the beach-party-promenade of Kuta and set out to explore the hidden natural attractions. We climbed a volcano and swam with manta rays, bathed in huge waterfalls and surfed not so huge waves, jumped down some cliffs and walked on pink sand beaches. Press play and book your flight.

20 years ago Kim Dawson Agency started their Model Search bringing the world Erin Wasson. Since then, the Kim Dawson Model Search has grown to include a film festival to showcase the talents of the fresh-faced finalists. We had the absolute pleasure of working with 2017 finalist, Claire Everbach, to capture this amazing coming-of-age film.

Just south of Guatemala City rests an Oasis. Never before have I witnessed or experienced God’s power at this magnitude.

If you haven't been exposed to a perspective such as this, I encourage you to explore this part of our world. While the need is indeed great, the impact we can have on individual lives and beyond may surprise you. Ripples turn into waves.

This project was created as a demonstration of FilmConvert software. The software does an amazing job of emulation not only of film grain, but also the film stocks colorimetry. What makes it even richer is that the emulation is also based on the color profile of the aquisition device. This allowed me to use 4 different "film stocks" - giving me greater artistic control over the final look and feel of the finished piece. Very cool.

About the setting:
OBX is the abbreviation given to North Carolina's Outer Banks. Here in the states, the abbreviation has appeared as bumper stickers on cars. I recently spent a couple of weeks on the Outer Banks. I had forgotten what an amazing beautiful place it is.

We set out at the break of dawn aboard the "Moon Shadow" and spent a day taking in the sun, the sights, and the creative vibes.

In today's world with so much business, scandal, and constant feeling of dread, we often convince ourselves that everything is all right while the world is burning around us. Threats of nuclear war, famine, wildfires, and world leaders performing a farce on the world stage leave us realizing how little control we have in life. We suppress our fears, put on a smile, and tell everyone things are good.

For the launch of a new missions initiative at our organization, I wrote and edited a piece that compiled footage from the past 8 years. FilmConvert was helpful in providing a unifying look between all cameras and adding Super16 grain so everything had the same texture.

This is a short story about Oleg, who spends a lot of time in Taiga (Evenkia region, central Russia) woods to hunt there. Almost like “The Last of the Mohicans” Oleg lives in Taiga wilderness, 130km away from the closest village. It’s been 30 years since he started to live and hunt by the Diupkun lake. Sometimes a few men who come to help him on hunting matters stay there too. The average temperature while filming was around -40°C. Shot with Nikon D800 and graded with Filmconvert Pro.

Shot on the Sony FS7 and Samyang Cine lenses we above all wanted to convey the idea of a journey. A journey both physical and of the mind, that leads from a place of stagnancy to the opening of an entirely new form of consciousness; if only for a brief moment in time. Authenticity is hard to lock in on in this new world and love is almost as elusive and abstract a concept as the digital realm that we now inhabit. However, hope has taken form.

For this short film "on my knees, like an orphan," I shot with the Sony Fs5 and 6500 and two different iPhones. In post, I used several stocks FilmConvert stocks to create looks with meaning. The stories tied together with "Life, Life" -- a song from Ryuichi Sakamoto's new record, music which he has shared as part of the |async International Short Film Contest. Because I live in a city, I fight for nature. And every time I am in nature, I do feel the awe. So that is why I named this short film from final lines of the poem: "I dedicate myself, on my knees, like an orphan, Alone - among mirrors - fenced in by reflections: Cities and seas, iridescent, intensified. A mother in tears takes a child on her lap." As an owner of a video production company we get a bit snobby about our tools. I've had an iPhone 5 in my pocket for months but honestly never had the inclination to use it. But one sunny spring day I went to the creek with the family and realized I forgot an SD card in my DSLR. So left with the option of shooting nothing or using my phone, I chose the latter.

Since I had my tool chosen for me I decided to give it the old college try and see if I could make something decent with no extra help. So no accessories, no stabilization tools, no fancy phone apps, no lenses. I used only the iPhone and my own hands, and an occasional rock.

I did cheat a bit at home though, this was edited in Premiere Pro and colored with Film Convert. But hey, cut me some slack, I draw the line at iMovie.

Promotional web video for croatian athlete Marijo Moznik. Another interesting challenge that I had as a director and cinematographer. In mid March 2016 I had to make a short promo video for one of the best gymnast in Croatia, European champion Marijo Možnik. His sponsors Red Bull, Audi and Tag Heuer wanted a dynamic 2.5 minute long film about one day in his life, partially filmed from his point of view. Main target were social networks, media and other promotional channels and main goal was to promote Marijo as an athlete but also to present a little bit of his private life to the audience. After detailed briefing and meetings, shooting started in the end of March. It took two days and 6 locations both in and outdoors. I had a very precise schedule without any deviations, although I filmed 10-12 hours per day. The most demanding spot was Sokol gym hall in center of Zagreb. The building itself is very old with poor natural lighting and to make things even worse, very bad neon lights

I run a 'technology' Youtube channel mainly used to exercise my cinematography. I'm using this as a means to create a portfolio and to network. This film is a product comparison between two very popular smartphones that are pushing the envelope when it comes to providing the latest specs at a very cheap price.
