The challenge:
Usually on set you have plenty of time to shoot, perfect lighting, makeup&hairstyling, lot of people for operating the camera, lenses, full equipment and, overall, real actors.
Here I’ve tried to put myself out of “the comfort zone”, pulling my skills to the limits because I think this is the way to improve oneself, which is something you never stop doing.
I did this little video, inspired by the Massive Attack music video “I want you”, having only me on set and:
> one friend: Ilaria Fantini who is not a professional actor, this was the first time for her in front of the camera
> one camera: Red One mx
> one tripod: Cartoni C20S
> one lens: Sigma 18-35 1.8 with CineMorph filter from VidAtlantic
> only ambient lighting
> few hours at disposal for shooting
> few hours for editing
I would like to say thank you so much to Ilaria Fantini for her time and patience, to Hotel
Episode 5 of Rough Hands took me on a roadtrip from Brisbane to the ACT, to meet Karim Haddad. A CEO turned bladesmith, who now runs a nationally acclaimed knifemaking business and training academy. Karim invited me to stay on his property where I camped in my van and took in the amazing landscape and sense of peace that Tharwa Valley offers. One of the reasons I love creating this series is that I get the chance to travel around the country, spend time with, and pick up wisdom from other creators. The conversations I had with Karim were incredibly eye opening for me. One quote that stood out for me during his interview, really echoed the way I feel about being a filmmaker and creator: “People often talk about work life balance, and I think that’s the wrong way to describe it. It’s about life balance. I work very hard here, I work a lot of hours here, but it’s consistent, and my life is consistent. I’m not doing a day job that I spend my weekends escaping from. I’m doing somethin

In what can only be described as the movie event of the summer, Tiddly Films present ‘Saving Private Lion’ - an action-packed WW2 mini-epic, which is quite clearly based on a true story (hmm!) First we see a fictional dramatised account of the D-Day landings, followed by a calamitous attempt at a re-enactment of the former at the Aberystwyth Charity Raft Race in 2017 using Go Pro action cams. Filmconvert was used to try and match the look of the Go Pro footage to that of the Blackmagic Camera (which was graded using Da Vinci Resolve), achieving a bleak, WW2-movie look.

Should the Gods deem me worthy of fatherhood, I have vowed to some day name my first daughter, ‘Morenike’ (moe-re-knee-ke). The name ‘Morenike’, in Yoruba means ‘I have found one to cherish’ and is usually bestowed upon a much sought after female child. Taken from my sophomore album ‘Adesiji’, the song has thus far turned out to become a favorite among fans and connoisseurs alike.
In a traditional Yoruba naming ceremony, a number of choice ingredients, among them; Salt, Honey, Peppercorns, Water and Kola nuts, are used as symbolic gestures in prayer, so that the child’s life may in turn be sweet, adventure filled, self sufficient, healthy and tasteful.
