During our recent trip to CA we tested out our new Rode Stereo mic. Shot a quick little piece to get a feel for it's ability to pick up ambient sounds. All shot with the Black Magic Cinema Camera 2.5k. Audio captured on a Zoom H4n and the Rhode Stereo mic. The piece was graded in Film Convert.

We were scouting locations in Southern California and we found this gem of a spot and decided to fire up the gear and make a SUP piece. We wanted to create a piece about a morning sup surf session with a cinematic feel. Shot on the BMCC (Blackmagic Cinema Camera) with Nikon zooms and primes, graded it in Film Convert and finished it off in Premiere. Thanks to our good friend (and frequent go to talent for SUP projects) Brody from PaddleFit and Dave from Infinity Surfboards for always supporting with killer gear.

Santa Cruz was our last stop before heading back to San Diego after spending 4 days on the road bouncing around California. We got there a little later than we planned, but after spending a few minutes watching the guys (and girls) charge waves, we decided to grab some gear out of the van and see what we could get. We found a nice spot on the cliff and spent the next 30 minutes chasing surfers with our lens. Santa Cruz is one of our favorite Northern California towns, so it was cool to take a break and just film something for the fun of it.

On the edge of Manitoba's Whiteshell Provincial Park lives Walter Keller, a Swiss national who came to Canada in 1967 with the dream of becoming a cowboy. He never became a cowboy, but instead picked up a chainsaw and began a long career in forestry, before finding a hidden talent in wood carving. Walter and his sweetheart, now design and carve commissioned artwork for clients across Canada, the northern USA, and Europe.

I was lucky enough to spend an afternoon in October with Walter as he worked on a number of pieces, and got an insight into his creative process.

The story of the Electric Coffee Company ( http://www.electriccoffee.co.uk ) in Ealing, London; its refurbishment, its re-opening, its coffee and the importance of community and the individuality of shops and cafes.

Shot entirely on the Leica M (Type 240) using a Leica 28mm Summicron ASPH, 35mm Summilux ASPH FLE and 50mm Noctilux ASPH, with some shots using a Leica OUFRO macro adapter. Ambient audio recorded on the internal microphone and interview recorded on a Roland R26 using a Rode lavalier microphone. Edited using FCP X. Partially colour graded in "Color" by Neil Patience ( http://www.patience.tv ). Final grading with FCP X and Film Convert. A Manfrotto 561BHDV video monopod was used for all shots apart from the interview, for which a Gitzo video tripod was used. I also used a Lee RF75 filter holder & hood, along with Lee ND filters.

There is no story and script. It is a collage of of how we move, in different medium, in different places across the world.

Shot on Canon EOS 600D, graded in Film Convert Pro and edited in Final Cut Pro X.

Music by Ólafur Arnalds - A stutter

I took my original short film that I shot in San Francisco about 1 year and brought it into FilmConvert (filmconvert.com) for a re-grade. I really love the way this software makes digitally shot footage looks. It's pretty much the most accurate way to emulate 35mm or 16mm filmstock. As far as cameras go I shot this on the Canon 60d (some shots on the 5D Mark II) and 24-105mmL F4 IS lens with a Zacuto Z-Finder, and no tripod. I really like this version more than the original.

I suggest you download the original film to fully appreciate the emulsion and grain as Vimeo's compression ruins a lot of the magic!
