License & Registration

How to use your FKV file
To use your FKV file you will first need to have the trial version of FilmConvert installed and running. All downloads on our downloads page will install initially as a trial version with a watermark applied. Your FKV file is your license key and can be used to remove the watermark from Film Convert.

The FKV file must be loaded from within FilmConvert and cannot be opened directly from the MacOSX Finder or Windows Explorer.
Instructions on how to load your FKV file differ slightly depending on which version you are using. For instructions, please follow the links below appropriate to the version of Film Convert you are currently using:
Moving licenses to new computers
We allow License keys to be moved to other machines. This service is intended to allow people to upgrade their machines and move Film Convert licenses across to them.

Note: We do not offer a real-time floating license system and we do not guarantee that if you deactivate a machine that your license will be immediately available for use.

To move a license you must deactivate the old machine first.

The stand-alone application can be deactivated by selecting "Clear Registration Details" on the menu bar.

The plugins can be deactivated by clicking the Deregister button at the bottom of the plugin settings when FIlmConvert is applied to a clip.

While deactivation will normally be automatic, there are times when this will not happen automatically. If your license does not free up within 30 minutes then please email customer support so we can process this manually for you. This process can take up to 48 hours to complete.

Finally, for Mac OSX users who have migrated a machine using the Mac OSX Migration Assistant, please deregister your NEW machine as well. This won't affect your license but will clear out any files that were copied by the migration assistant that will interfere with the activation process.
Standard Edition Licenses
Due to the increasing number of products we have available, maintaining separate "standard" editions is no longer feasible. However, if you currently own a standard edition license for FilmConvert stand-alone or FCPX plugin then your license key will continue to work with those products. To upgrade your software simply download the trial version of the Pro FCPX or Stand Alone products and activate it with your standard edition registration key. The "standard edition" product restrictions will then be applied. We do allow upgrades to either FilmConvert Pro and also to the FilmConvert Pro Bundle. If you wish to upgrade to FilmConvert Pro then email us at support@filmconvert.com and will be happy to assist.
